What the Snippet does

Last updated October 13, 2026

The Snippet is the one line you paste into your Site. This page lists exactly what it does on your visitors’ devices and what we keep, so you and your adviser can judge how it fits your privacy obligations.

On your visitor’s device

  • After your page has finished loading, a loader of under 2 KB asks cdn.sitepets.com for your Pet’s appearance and then loads the code that draws it.
  • It sends one request per page load to b.sitepets.com. The request body is your Site Key and nothing else. On very busy Sites only a sample of page loads send it.
  • It sets no cookies and uses no local storage, session storage or IndexedDB. It reads nothing from the device to recognise it, and creates no identifier.
  • It doesn’t send the page address, the referrer or anything the visitor types or clicks.
  • A visitor can hide the Pet for the current page view. That choice isn’t remembered, because remembering it would need storage.
  • Today the Snippet doesn’t report pats or Card opens at all. If it ever does, they will be per-Site counts under the same rules.

What we keep

  • Per-Site aggregate counts only: the number of page loads on your Site in each hour.
  • No identifiers: we don’t store IP addresses, user-agents or any per-visitor value, in our database or our logs.
  • Nothing combined across Sites: counts from your Site are never joined with data from any other Site.
  • Used only for your Site’s own statistics: your Pet and your dashboard. We don’t use them for our own analytics or marketing.
  • The first request from a new Site Key tells us the Site’s hostname (from the browser’s Origin header), which names your Site. That is about your Site, not your visitor.

Like every web request, the requests reach Cloudflare and then our servers with the visitor’s IP address. We use it only in transit and don’t write it down. Cloudflare handles it as our sub-processor. The full terms are in our Data Processing Agreement, where we act as your processor.

Consent

We don’t tell you whether you need your visitors’ consent. In the EU, the ePrivacy rules (in Germany, § 25 TDDDG) cover reading from a device as well as storing on it, and European regulators treat requests such as beacons as potentially in scope. Some audience-measurement uses are exempt, and the properties above are the ones that exemption usually looks at. Whether they are enough for your Site is for you and your adviser to decide. If you decide you need consent, load the Snippet only after your visitor gives it.

Paragraph for your privacy policy

Paste the version you need and adjust the legal basis if your adviser prefers a different one.

SitePets. This website includes SitePets, a small animated pet. It is provided by ManuSoft Inc (doing business as SitePets), USA, which acts as our processor under Art. 28 GDPR. After a page has loaded, your browser fetches the SitePets script and the pet’s appearance from cdn.sitepets.com and sends one message per page view to b.sitepets.com that contains only this website’s identifier. As with any web request, your IP address reaches SitePets and its service provider Cloudflare in the process; SitePets does not store it. No cookies are set, nothing is stored on your device and no identifier is created. SitePets stores only the hourly total of page views on this website. These totals are never combined with data from other websites and are used only for this website’s own statistics. The servers are in the EU; transfers to the US rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in an appealing website and in simple audience measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). More: https://sitepets.com/snippet
